Beavers build barriers against litter

Two of Hounslow Highways’ Community Environment Officers visited Beavers Primary School in January to give a talk to Year 3 students about keeping the environment clean.

Students were asked to make promises about how they would keep their environment clean and place them on a cardboard tree. Teachers will ensure they continually add to this over the course of the school year. The officers have a second visit planned in the summer where they will find out how the children have adhered to their promises.

The visit also involved educating the children about the most commonly dropped pieces of litter and how long they take to disintegrate. They were also shown pictures of the negative impacts of litter on wildlife and the local environment.

Rob Gillespie, Hounslow Highways Service Director, said “School visits are vital to Hounslow Highways’ continuous cleansing enforcement programme and in changing the waste disposal culture within the borough.”
