Hounslow Highways issues first fine for littering

A 18 year-old woman received a £50 on-the-spot fine as part of Hounslow Highways' crack down on litterlouts last week.

The woman was issued with the fine after police and Hounslow Highways community environment officers spotted her dropping litter in Manor Avenue, Hounslow.

It was the first time Hounslow Highways officers have issued a fine for littering.

Councillor Colin Ellar, deputy leader and cabinet member for environment, said: “No-one has a right to spoil our streets. I hope this sends out a clear message that Hounslow Council will not tolerate litter louts. If you are caught dropping rubbish on our streets, you could be handed a fine.”

The fine was issued as part of a joint operation between Hounslow Council, Hounslow Highways and the police which was carried out in Brentford and Hounslow.

Hounslow Highways Service Director Rob Gillespie said: “Our officers will be out more often to deter people from littering and dumping waste illegally. It is everyone’s responsibility to help keep their surrounding environment clean and we need to reinforce this. Issuing fines will help to achieve a cleaner, greener borough.”
