Hounslow’s war on grime is here to stay says Hounslow’s deputy leader, Councillor Colin Ellar.

War on litter ‘here to stay’ says Hounslow

Cllr Ellar was speaking following the installation of new street signs warning litter louts they will face a fine of up to £80 if they are caught dropping litter on the streets.

Cllr Ellar said: “These signs demonstrate our commitment to make Hounslow cleaner and our determination to pursue our zero tolerance approach to litter, fly tipping and enviro-crime.  It’s a declaration of intent that our war on grime is here to stay.”

The installation of the fines also comes with news that 46 people received an on-the-spot fine since the council’s crackdown on littering was launched last year.

Cllr Ellar said: “It’s early days, but I do believe our new zero tolerance approach and campaign is beginning to make an impact. The recent Keep Britain Tidy figures show litter levels are falling, although we still have some way to go.”

Hounslow Highways Service Director Rob Gillespie said: “These new signs are another step in our efforts to deter people from littering the borough’s streets. With the council, we are committed to improving litter levels across Hounslow.”
